    Book details

When it begins to bug slug that his mummy doesn’t hug him, he leaves home to find out why. Kitten suggests he should be furrier, so he puts on a woolly hat, while Bird suggests he needs a beak. Soon, Slug has a new look, will his mummy hug him now?

"Preposterously outrageous and hilarious series of transformations, captured by Ross's brilliant illustrations as Willis's verse romps along to its warm and touching conclusion." (Daily Mail)"Hilarious illustrations... match Jeanne Willis's ebullient rhyming text perfectly." (Julia Eccleshare, Lovereading BOTM)"Driving rhyme and amusing resolution and Ross' illustrations are the perfect complement. Just begs to be read aloud, buy, buy, buy!" (Peters eGazette, Books of the Week)"Lots of laugh-out-loud moments and a very sweet ending" (Fiona Noble The Bookseller)"Wonderful illustrations... humour and a lovely ending. We all really enjoyed this." (Little Booktastic Blog)

Feel good story about how important it is to be yourself. Loved the ending, lots of giggles too.

I was at work ( I work as a teaching assistant) and was doing my shift at the school book fair. This was on the shelf so I had a quick read. I couldn't put it down. It has become one of my new favourites. I've bought it for my Great Niece for Christmas. What a truly delightful story :)

My three-year-old book connoisseur loves this book, and so do I. It's absolutely charming, with a great, offbeat sense of humour and super rhymes. There's a neat little twist in the tale, too. One of our favourites.

This is my wife's favourite children's book - up there with gruffalo, owl babies and Hairy Mclary.
